December 2010; Getting Funky

We're very excited this month because we're sharing our sketch with the girls on Funky Hand's Challenge blog "Get Funky".
So for our first examples using the December sketch we're using Funky Hand papers for our projects. If you've not come across them before click HERE for more information. There are downloads and CDs available and the papers and digi images are great to work with.  You'll also find a little freebie download which makes a fab "taster" for you to try
Here's the sketch, you can use it for a card or anything else you want to make - but please come and let us know where we can see anything you make, then we'll be able to add your blog to our links list.
Here's the first examples the Sketch File Team have made using this sketch and Funky Hand goodies.
We'll be along with more things using the sketch later in December, so please pop back and see.

Don't forget to pop over to the Get Funky blog to see lots
more projects using this sketch.
There's always a prize on offer over there, so it's definitely worth joining in!
Please remember to come and tell us where we can see your creations

November Sketch - Take 2

Hi everyone, it's Lynda here and I'd just like to show another card I made using this month's sketch and also the scraps left over from my first card. Hope you like it.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank Kathy, Bev and Jackie for asking me to join this great little team and to introduce myself properly.

I've been card making now for about 4 or 5 years and I'm absolutely addicted to it. At first I attended local crafting classes getting to know the ins and outs of stamping, embossing, die cutting etc. You name it I wanted to try it. I was amazed at just how much you could actually do with paper and glue lol. I started my blog nearly a couple of years ago when the lovely Kirsty Wiseman asked me to join her Design Team and it's just snowballed since then. I'm also on the Design Team for Daring Cardmakers, Craftwork Cards and now Kathy's Waffle Sketch File.

I've always crafted one way or another all of my life - knitting, crocheting, tapestry, rug making, pressed flowers, dough craft - just to name a few but my major passion before card making was pottery. I had my own little workshop and produced decorative pottery which I sold at local craft fairs. When clay work became too heavy I had to find something else to do and I'm so glad I found paper and glue. The rest they say 'is history'.

November 2010: Corner Detail

A huge great big WELCOME to our newest designer here on the Sketch File.
We're really lucky to have Lynda, of Lynda Loves Crafting fame joining our little team. Always inspiring and always super-creative, we know it'll be a treat to see Lynda's work on the blog.

Thanks to those who shared their creations last month - please help us spread the word about the sketches you find here as we'd love to see more people using them - and of course, lots more links in our links lists!
Here is the sketch for November, followed closely by the projects the team have made using it. remember anything goes - ATCs, cards, inchies, twinchies, book covers, scrap pages - it all counts so just make whatever you fancy then come back and let us know where we can see it.

We'll be keeping an eye on the things you share and adding your links to the sidebar. We're also hoping to add more of the things we make ourselves using this sketch as the month goes on - so please come back and check from time to time.
We'd love it if you'd add us to your links lists and "following" lists - that way you'll be kept up to date for when new updates appear on here

October 2010: Going Over the Edge

These months just go rushing by....
We hope you enjoyed using the September sketch - thanks to those who shared their projects with us over the last month - remember that the sketches can be used at any time and if you leave a message your links will be added to the relevant sketch list and also to the "Latest Links" list for a while so that they are easy to find - even if they are for an old sketch.

Here is the October sketch:
I thought the oval frame would be a good mat for an image, a photo, or a quotation or just for adding a sentiment.  I've put flowers over the edge of the oval frame but of course, you can use whatever you like.  As ever, you can stretch, shrink, turn it upside down or sideways!  We just want to see you use it and will be along to visit your blog if you come back and leave us a message to let us know you've used it.
If you're joining in with the "World Cardmaking Day" fun this weekend, maybe this sketch will be a good starting point fpr your crafting!
Here's what the Sketch File Team have made this month - don't forget to pop back to check the links for more inspiration over the month.

Happy Crafting!

Jackie

Sorry about the ropey picture, I had to take it on my phone :)

How are you getting on with this month's sketch?  Don't forget to come back and let us know when you've used it

September '10; Over the Horizon

If you had a go at using the August sketch  - then Thank You - we hope you enjoyed making your cards as much as we enjoyed seeing them. Don't forget you can use the sketches any time - just leave a message on the one you use and we'll add it to the links list.
This sketch reminds me of the sun going down on the horizon - I thought I'd better explain the title in case you thought I'd lost the plot (again....)
We'd love to see what you come up with for this sketch - use it for any sort of project you like, but please come and tell us where we can see your creations.
Here are our ideas for using this month's sketch

Meet Bev!

Yesterday I introduced Jackie, who I've actually known for ages via this wonderful Internet thing, today I'd like to introduce Bev, whom I've only just met - but I know she's going to be a great friend and an inspiring Teamie for the Sketch File

Hi my name is Bev, I live in a little village in Cambridgeshire UK.
I run a business from home with my hubby Andy, who I have been married to for 21yrs.
I have 2 children; my son is 19 and my daughter 16 (just finished doing her GCSE’s)
We have a gorgeous Border collie called Tazz who is 18 months old. He is a real little character
I used to make Jewellery until a dear friend said "you should make handmade cards, you would be brill at it."  So I listened to her, and 6 yrs on not looked back. Just running out of space as I am limited. I do a lot of my card making on my lap or on the floor.
I do more card making than anything else, but willing to give something different a try anytime.
At the moment I am addicted to colouring with my copics, I only really got into rubber stamps just before Christmas last year.
I am so chuffed to have been asked to join the design team at kathys waffle sketch file blog.

Meet Jackie!

I was thrilled to bits when Jackie agreed to join the Design Squad for the Sketch File, we've known each other via the internet for a few years now. As well as loving crafting, Jackie shares my Grecophile tendencies! I know that as a confirmed sketchoholic she's going to make a fab Teamie on here.

"Like many crafters I started at the age of about 4 or 5 when my grandmother taught me to knit. Later I learnt to sew and I used to make my own dolls clothes! I progressed to making my own clothes through taking needlework at school then cross stitch but always fell back on knitting. I eventually went on to knit samples for Edina Ronay and Sirdar. (For those old enough to remember, Selina Scott wore one of my sweaters on The Clothes Show)
About seven years ago I decided to make some cards for hubby to give to clients …….he’s a part time DJ, and the rest, as they say, is history. I went on to start making wedding stationery and started my own company, Party Nights Creations. I love rubber stamping as I am not in the least bit artistic (unless stick men count J). I also love ribbon and simple uncluttered work. I really enjoy scrap booking too (and buying goodies) and use this as one of my methods of relaxation.  I dabble with beads too and love Swarovski crystals.
I love my design team work, the constant learning involved and the chance to work along side international crafters. I’ve seen my work in print a couple of times as I’ve been runner up in a couple of national card making competitions. My work also features regularly on Create and Craft.  I would really love to be a permanent freelance designer for mags and/or manufacturers etc……it doesn’t hurt to dream!
I am so excited about having been asked to join Kathy’s design team. I thought I had the perfect job before but it has definitely just got better."

August '10: Peeping Out

Welcome to the new sketch for August.
I think it looks as though the circle is peeping out from behind the rectangle - rather like the sun coming from behind a (rather strange shaped) cloud, or a person poking their head round from behind a wall!  I wonder what you see?
Over the next few days I'm hoping to introduce the first members of the *new* Sketch File Design Squad, along with something they've made using this sketch, so please come back soon and meet them.

We'll be working to introduce as many people to these sketches as possible, and I know it's going to be fab to have more designs on here to inspire our fellow crafters.
We're going to be on the lookout for more "squaddies" to join us in the future, and I'd also love to offer some one-off Guest spots too.
Anyway, as you'll have noticed, my card isn't here yet - but it will be here asap - then we'll give each of the new designers a post of their own to.introduce themselves and showcase their first Sketch File Designer project.
Please have a go with the sketch - come back and let us know where we can see your project and we'll pop by to see it and we'll also add your link to the lists in the sidebar

July '10; Simple Layers and a Designer Call-Out

I'm late again, and it all started so well!¬

First of all some news:

Would you be interested in joining a little team of designers who use these sketches each month?  I'm looking for two designers to help show off the sketches on their blogs and on here of course, initially for a three month period.
If you're interested, please make two cards - one using this sketch and one using one of the other sketches on this blog and leave comments to let me know where I can see them and whether you're interested in joining my little team.
If you've already used any of the sketches on here, make one with the July sketch then just choose your favourite card from the ones you've used my sketches for previously as your DT submission.  Ifany of this doesn't make sense just email me!

Now, here's my sketch for July, it's a nice and simple layered rectangles little number and I hope you like it.
Here's the card I've made using the sketch - there's more info over on my regular blog
Thanks for visiting, I hope you'll be joining in this month

June '10; All in the Oval

Well, the sketch and card were actually ready to go on the 1st, but I just forgot to upload them.  Ah well, only one day late isn't too bad.  This is nice and easy I think, so I hope it inspired you to have a go.

As ever, the sketch is free to use, but I'd appreciate it if you'd let people know where you found in and also if you'd leave a comment so that I can see what you've made.

Here's the card I've put together using the June sketch.  I'll add it to my regular blog tomorrow along with the "how I made it" info
Looking forward to seeing your projects, so please don't forget to link back.

May '10: What a Star!

A new month and a new card LO idea to try.  This one couldn't be much easier and I hope there'll be lots of links being added in the sidebar!
The sketches are free to use, but I'd appreciate it if you'd mention where you found them and link back to here with a comment so we can come and see how you've used them.
Here's how I've used this sketch to make a card for one of my nephews
Looking forward to seeing how you interpret the sketch in your own style

April '10: On the Borderline

New month, new sketch.  I hope you'll be inspired to get creative with this one.

This is my (very) bright take on the sketch.   You can be more subtle with your projects - or you could be even louder if you like - as usual, anything goes!

I hope you'll enjoy working with this sketch, it's free to use for any project - all I ask is that you give due credit and point people to where you found it.
Please come back and let me know where I can see what you make - if you do, I'll add your card/project to my links list so that other people can see it too

March '10: Bouncy Bouncy Bouncy

OK, so maybe you don't need to make anything bouncy for this month's sketch, but it's the design behind my hubby's birthday card and although my card is a 3D pop-up number, with elephants wobbling about on tiny springs, the LO works just as well for less bouncy cards too!

I hope you'll enjoy working with this sketch, it's free to use for any project - all I ask is that you give due credit and point people to where you found it.
Please come back and let me know where I can see what you make - if you do, I'll add your card/project to my links list so that other people can see it too

Monday 1 February 2010

February '10: Say it with Flowers?

A new LO design will be posted on the first of each month..........
from now on, with the occasional bonus mid month sketch appearing from time to time!

I need to get more of a routine going with these sketches!  It might help me be more organised and also might encourage more people to use them - so please spread the word if you like the designs!
Gentle reminders near the end of a month would also be appreciated!

So, it's the 1st of February today and here's this month's (main) sketch.  I hope you like it and will find some time to have a play with it.
It may be called "Say it with Flowers?" but as the question mark indicates, you don't have to have flowers on your card - it's just that I get a bit bored if I only put circles or squares to indicate the focus bits.  Feel free to substitute whatever you fancy. :)

Here are a couple of cards I've made using this sketch.
The first is a "scrapling" - it's the piece remaining after cutting a 14cm square card from a sheet of A4
This next card was going to be just the sketch "shrunk" to make a sort of topper embellishment, but it all got a bit out of hand!

Ok, so now I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that lots of people like the sketch and will give it a try.  As usual, all I ask is that you let people know where you found the sketch and that you come back and let me know when you've used it so that I can see what you've made.

Happy crafting
